What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state, comparable to that of daydreaming, which is induced by the concentration on a single idea or concept.

Generally there is no such thing as a ‘hypnotised feeling’ and contrary to popular belief we do not ‘lose control’ or awareness of what we are doing.

  How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis combined with behavioural and cognitive therapies to help gain fresh attitudes and new ways of thinking about things. This is achieved by bypassing the conscious mind, which is where all our logical thought processes take place and where there is the most resistance to change, in order to access the opinions stored in the subconscious. In effect you are given the opportunity to reassess any faulty programming that you may have received in the past in order to create a positive new approach.
You may already know how to get better…….
Logically you may already know how to get better, you know what actions or changes need to be made that will resolve your problem. You know that being overweight is resolved by eating different foods and exercising more. You know that stress and anxiety respond well to positive attitudes, relaxation and social activities—and to give up smoking you need to stop smoking cigarettes!

But knowing these things does not mean that you will be able to do them.

The issue is that your problem does not exist in the intellectual part of your mind which understands these things but the subconscious. The subconscious is either responding to inappropriate instinctive behaviour patterns or faulty programming that we learnt as a child.

Hypnotherapy is able to communicate with the subconscious using a language it understands—that of image rather than words alone, and emotions rather than logic.

The intellectual part of the brain is then able to deal with the problem free from the inappropriate subconscious response.
